Believe it or not, pets have played a role in politics over the years. Not as in the role of Teddy Roosevelt's dog, but as in holding an actual position in office. According to Wikipedia, several non-human electoral candidates have taken office over the years.

Take old Stubbs here – a 20-year old orange tabby who was the honorary mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska. He held the position from 1997 until his death in July of 2017. As a kitten, he served as a write-in during the election. Since none of the residents were happy with any of the human candidates, Stubbs took the win. His office located in Nagey's General Store soon became a huge attraction for locals and tourists alike. During his time as mayor, Stubbs kept his approval ratings up by not interfering with any of the town's businesses or tax rates.
Stubbs is only one of many other non-human candidates who have been involved in politics. A dog named Bosco was elected mayor of Sunol, California in 1981, and served until his death in 1994.
